I spent a lovely final evening with Granny in Gourock checking out all the old family movies. I had gathered and converted these old video 8 movies to video last year and have been waiting the mythical moment when I get to edit them into somehting cool. I realized that I hadn't watched them all!
There are movies of my parents wedding - Judy look great chasing ducks around the local laird's gorgeous house (from where she was married). It made me wonder if Merle and Keith (Judy's parents) had actually seen this video, since with transport from Oz to the UK being what it was in the 60s they weren't able to make the wedding.
In other movies there were shots of Bobbie sailing around on an old Wooden Empire boat and lots of George (my Grandpa) with the ghirls Susan and Patricia on holiday on delightful wooden yachts and wooden caravans. Scenes of highland scotland and west coast islands make me desperate to make my own pilgrimage up there by sea one day soon. There are beautiful shots of Granny and her twin, Margaret (with whom I dined earlier in the week) jumping around the Garden at the old house in Barhill road. Trish and Roger's wedding is also there.
I will get that footage into the computer by hook or by crook - I think that George might have been a little pissed at the wedding as one gets a bit sea sick in his super-high-speed-pans so I'm looking forward to extracting a few scenes as photos and slowing a few others down to get a look at the spunky mini-dresses worn by Judy's friends ;) I shall add a sound-track complete with the whirrr of a Super8 projector in the background.
