Visiting home - -
But realistically Home (in the sense of the house that I came home from the hospital to) is a village up the hill behind Port Glasgow called Kilmalcolm. I'm assured they didn't there (Kill Malcolm) but no one could say the origin (other than "it's probably old Scots" which is not very helpful ;) Granny has promised to buy me an Old Scots dictoinary to help me through my "why is it called" afflication.
Kilmalcolm is a sweet genuine village with rolling hills and sheep visible from the middle. Mils and I had a good italian lunch (what did you expect, Haggis?) and then visited the flower shop which is run by Bob and Judes' good friend, Karen McMaster and her beautiful daughter, Sally.
Karen was, I think it is safe to say, pleased to see us and we had a good chat - her other daughter is in Edinburgh and, if she looks anything like Sally, I think I'll definitely take the invitation to head over and pay a visit ;)
Then we headed up the hill to our old house - which I don't remember at all unfortunately. It was the lodge (kind of a gatehouse) of a large house right at the top of the hill, Overton (because it is - that one is easy ;). They have built a few more houses around it but "North Lodge" is still there and looks very sweet and Overton house itself, and its gardens, looks lovely. The McMaster's and another family used to live up there so the whole place was basically (though I'm sure it wasn't called one) a 70s commune. Or is that just me romanticizing my birth-place?
