Finally I have access to the University’s LDAP server for address lookups. It turns out to be easy when you have the details …
Server: sudir1.syr.edu
Port: 389 (standard non-ssl)
Searchbase: ou=people,dc=syr,dc=edu
Authentication: None
Check that into Address Book (prefs::LDAP) nd you can begin searching for anyone in the university from the To: bar or from Address Book (where you can drag their card across).
About bloody time. Can’t get the SSL access working and I think it only works from on the SU campus network—-but SSH port redirection will take care of that.

It still lists my old phone number and status, as opposed to https://mysu.syr.edu which queries the up-to-date LDAP server (whose hostname escapes me at the moment). I believe that the LDAP servers that actually have current info require a login….
