LDAP goodness---search SU

Finally I have access to the University’s LDAP server for address lookups. It turns out to be easy when you have the details …

Server: sudir1.syr.edu
Port: 389 (standard non-ssl)
Searchbase: ou=people,dc=syr,dc=edu
Authentication: None

Check that into Address Book (prefs::LDAP) nd you can begin searching for anyone in the university from the To: bar or from Address Book (where you can drag their card across).

About bloody time. Can’t get the SSL access working and I think it only works from on the SU campus network—-but SSH port redirection will take care of that.

It’s pretty nifty, but unfortunately sudir1.syr.edu has outdated information. It still lists my old phone number and status, as opposed to https://mysu.syr.edu which queries the up-to-date LDAP server (whose hostname escapes me at the moment). I believe that the LDAP servers that actually have current info require a login….
